Tartan Meets Tech: The Meaning Behind Plaid Fertility Law
Fertility law in Canada made clear, compassionate, and human for surrogacy, egg donation, sperm donation, and embryo donation.
Fertility Law Shouldn’t Feel Like Navigating a Maze
If you’re growing your family through surrogacy or gamete donation, you're already balancing medical, emotional, and deeply personal decisions. The last thing you need is for the legal process to feel daunting, confusing, or slow.
At Plaid Fertility Law, we believe Canadian fertility law should be clear, supportive, and designed for real people. And that’s the solution that Plaid offers, a legal platform that helps intended parents, surrogates, and donors move through the legal side of third-party reproduction with confidence and ease.
Why I Created Plaid
A Platform Built from Experience and Empathy
After more than 15 years as a Canadian fertility lawyer, I began to feel a quiet pull, an urge to give back in a meaningful way. I had the passion, the energy, and the thread of an idea.
What if I could innovate a more streamlined, accessible, and frictionless way to create fertility agreements? What if the legal process didn’t have to feel like a series of roadblocks?
I had seen the pain points firsthand. And I felt compelled to build something that could truly transform how we approach fertility law in Canada; not just a tool, but a platform that felt as thoughtful and human as the people it was designed to serve.
That’s how Plaid Fertility Law was born.
Why “Plaid”? A Symbol of Family, Connection, and Strength
Plaid isn’t just a fabric or a Canadian fashion staple. Its roots trace back hundreds of years to Scotland, where each tartan pattern symbolized a specific family or community. It represented identity, belonging, and heritage, values that mirror what we see in the families we help build.
Each plaid pattern is made of different threads, each one unique in colour, direction, and origin. But when woven together with intention, they form something strong and beautiful.
We see surrogates, egg and sperm donors, and intended parents as those distinct threads. When brought together thoughtfully, they create something extraordinary: a family.
Plaid is a metaphor for that journey. It stands for inclusivity, resilience, and unity, everything we strive to bring to our fertility law practice and the platform we’ve built to support it.
What Makes Plaid Fertility Law Unique?
